Lisa + Wab

We love the domino effect of kismet.

Four and a half years ago we photographed one of the most exceptional weddings of our lifetimes. Shawon & Jesse nuptials embedded deeply within our photographic souls. When we were approached to photograph Shawon’s brother’s wedding this past fall, we were confident that this too would be a extraordinary event to both witness and capture. Indeed it was! Lisa & Wab’s celebration was one of community, generosity, tradition and love.

Undeterred by Mother Earth’s decision to rain, the ceremony took place in the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden. Wab’s uncle performed the marriage ceremony, as Lisa & Wab’s parents participated as well. The solemnity of the rituals were balanced with the lightness of heart, as their humour pervaded throughout.

What followed next was something we’ve never experienced in our decade long work as wedding photographers. Lisa & Wab decided to host a hot meal for over 250 less fortunate people at Thunderbird House on their wedding day. It was an incredible gathering as they, along with their friends and family served bannock and bison stew to those in need.

The reception was held at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The room decor was nothing short of spectacular, of course in thanks to CMHR and Sabine. The evening flowed seamlessly through a river of brilliant speeches and incredible performances by Hoop Dance Shanley Spence, a jingle dress dance and drumming by Whitehorse. By the end of the night we packed up with a packed dance floor still bouncing to the sounds of DJ Boogie.

We are so grateful to have been asked by Wab & Lisa to photograph their wedding. Such an intelligent and hilarious couple to have had the privilege to photograph. Thank you. Miigwetch.
